Thuja plicata ‘Virescens’ are extremely similar to the ‘Atrovirens’ variety. A sister plant to the Green Giant Arborvitae, Virescens Arborvitae grows very quickly, is not disturbed by deer and makes a very dense privacy hedge. The main difference, however, is that the Virescens Arborvitae stays much more narrow. The Virescens is similar to an Emerald Green but grows at a faster rate and is deer-resistant! If you have a smaller yard or smaller garden space where you need a fast-growing privacy plant, Thuja ‘Virescens’ may be the perfect fit for you.
Atrovirens and Virescens are commonly used in Europe as an evergreen privacy hedge.
